Sun City: Léonard She Okitundu Reflects on the Negotiations Surrounding Joseph Kabila's Legitimacy

Léonard She Okitundu, head of the government delegation at the Sun City inter-Congolese Dialogue, discussed the negotiations regarding Joseph Kabila's legitimacy. He emphasized that the presidential camp sought to have Kabila recognized as president, while the RCD and MLC wanted to treat him as a camp leader. Okitundu stated that the rebels ultimately recognized Kabila as head of state, which facilitated the formation of a transitional government. He also noted that Étienne Tshisekedi did not want the vice-presidential position proposed for the UDPS.
