Super Eagles: AC Milan's Zachary Athekame will no longer play for Nigeria

Zachary Athekame, AC Milan's right-back on loan at Lyon, will no longer play for Nigeria after being cap-tied by Switzerland. His participation in Switzerland’s 3-0 win over North Macedonia in the UEFA Nations League prevents him from representing Nigeria, despite his Nigerian father. The Nigerian Football Federation failed to secure his services, as he was selected for Switzerland following a strong start to the season, including two goals and two assists in five Ligue 1 matches. Athekame previously represented Switzerland at the U21 level and was an unused substitute in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.
