Brentford defender Michael Kayode can no longer represent Nigeria internationally after making a cap-tying appearance for Italy in their 4-1 UEFA Nations League win over Turkey. Born in Borgomanero, Italy, he was eligible for Nigeria through his parents but chose to play for Italy, his country of birth. He scored on his debut as Italy's first defender to do so since 2021. FIFA regulations prevent him from switching national teams because he was over 22 at his senior debut.
