Super El Niño: 451,000 deaths due to extreme heat expected by February 2027 (Study)

According to the Climate Impact Lab at the University of Chicago, the ongoing 'Super El Niño' could lead to an additional 451,000 deaths related to heat by the end of February 2027, with 239,000 deaths estimated between September 2026 and February 2027. Africa, especially Nigeria with 31,400 deaths, would be the most affected region, followed by Indonesia, Sudan, India, and Brazil. Global temperatures are expected to exceed the average by 1.2°C, with 44% more extremely hot days, illustrating a future where such conditions could become the norm due to climate change.
