Suspended Anglican Archbishop Ibezim Sues Church Primate

Alexander Ibezim, Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of the Diocese of Awka, has filed suit in Anambra State High Court challenging his alleged suspension and disciplinary proceedings. He asks the court to interpret the Church of Nigeria’s 2020 Constitution and canons governing discipline of serving bishops, and to rule on the legality of a visitation team he says was improperly constituted. In a letter dated October 13, 2026, Primate Henry C. Ndukuba directed Ibezim to take six months’ compulsory leave while allegations involving the archbishop and diocese are investigated. Ndukuba and Church Dean Blessing Enyindah are named as defendants and have 42 days after service of the summons to enter an appearance.
