Dar al-Ifta, Libya’s highest religious authority, has issued a fatwa forbidding Muslims from buying, selling or wearing clothing bearing the Nike logo. The Tripoli-based institution says the brand is named after the Greek goddess of victory and that its swoosh evokes her wings, making it a symbol associated with polytheism. It is not a government ban and specifies no penalties.
