Tanzania blamed for 39pc of EAC trade barriers as deadline lapses

Tanzania has been identified as the main contributor to non-tariff barriers (NTBs) within the East African Community (EAC), accounting for 39.3% of outstanding NTBs. Despite bilateral commitments to facilitate cross-border trade, trade restrictions imposed by Dodoma have led to a sharp decline in domestic exports from Kenya and Uganda. The Regional Monitoring Committee meeting revealed that 28 NTBs remain unresolved, with tax-related measures being the most prevalent.
