The Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute has begun collaring elephants in Meatu District to monitor their movements and reduce human-wildlife conflict. The elephants, selected from eight herds, are fitted with GPS collars to help rangers prevent intrusions into villages. District Wildlife Officer Joseph Sikawa expressed gratitude to the institute for this initiative, which alleviates the threat posed by elephants to local villagers.
