Tanzania: Tundu Lissu's treason trial enters final phase

The treason trial of Tundu Lissu, leader of the opposition party Chadema, has entered its final phase at the High Court in Dar es Salaam. He is accused of inciting the public to prevent the general elections in 2025, a charge that can lead to the death penalty. His lawyers argue that the evidence presented by the prosecution is insufficient, while prosecutors claim otherwise. Lissu has been detained since April 2025.
