Tanzanian Politician, Tundu Lissu nominated for Sakharov Prize by the European Parliament

The European People's Party Group has nominated Tundu Lissu, a Tanzanian lawyer and human rights activist, for the Sakharov Prize. A former MP and current chair of CHADEMA, Lissu is currently in prison facing treason charges. He survived an assassination attempt in 2017 and continued to advocate for democratic reforms despite the erosion of democratic pluralism in Tanzania.
