LAUTECH ASUU Begins Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, began an indefinite strike on Thursday, disrupting academic activities. The action followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum and concerns implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement, arrears dating from January 2026, unpaid Earned Academic Allowances, and promotion arrears from 2013 to 2025. The union is also seeking changes to administrative committees and greater transparency in the university’s electronic voting system. In a statement signed by branch chairperson Prof. Olujimi Dada and secretary Dr. Soji Arinola, ASUU urged members to remain united and follow only directives issued by the branch chairperson.

The South African Union of Teachers (SAOU) says the figures warrant urgent scrutiny of working conditions, including heavy workloads, burnout, administrative demands, staff shortages and learner discipline. SAOU executive officer Paul Sauer said the data do not establish why individual teachers applied, but schools’ working conditions need urgent attention. One former teacher said she left after years of mounting pressure because she had nothing left to give.
