The Diallos’ wedding: 2 billion CFA francs spent and a necklace worth 1 billion

In Mali, Oumou Sininta and her husband Seydou Maka Diallo celebrated the marriages of 13 couples from the Diallo family during a week of festivities. According to figures that have not been officially confirmed, more than 2 billion CFA francs may have been spent, while Sininta reportedly gave over 500 million to griots and artists, including 50 million each to Babani Koné and Baba Maal. She also wore a large gold necklace said to be worth nearly 1 billion CFA francs. A Senegalese delegation led by Ngoye Fall attended the celebrations.
