The dissolution of the National Assembly is only a matter of time

The election of Ousmane Sonko as president of the National Assembly with 132 votes out of 165 has disrupted the balance of power in Senegal, making parliamentary dissolution increasingly plausible. The rift between Sonko and Bassirou Diomaye Faye, along with tensions over public finances and upcoming elections, creates a conducive climate for a return to the polls. However, the president can only dissolve the current Assembly starting December 2, 2026.
