The film « Rumba Royal » chosen to represent DRC at the 2027 Oscars

The Democratic Republic of Congo officially selected the film Rumba Royal to compete in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Oscars, scheduled for March 14, 2027, in Hollywood. The announcement was made at a ceremony in Kinshasa, where the DRC Film Commission introduced its members and awarded the Best National Film prize to Rumba Royal. The selection was based on the film’s artistic quality, including its cinematography, storytelling, and its portrayal of Leopoldville in the late 1950s. Director Yohane Dean Lengol praised his team’s work, and this recognition offers hope for Congolese cinema.
