The Head of State Demands an Emergency Plan and Deep Reforms for Civil Status

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye called for an urgent reform of civil status during the latest Council of Ministers meeting. He requested the Minister of Territorial Collectivities to submit an emergency plan by the end of June 2026 to address deficiencies and modernize the sector, emphasizing digitalization. Additionally, national consultations are to be organized before the end of August 2026 to strengthen the governance of civil status.
