The National Assembly adopts a resolution to maintain the international A status of the NHRC

On September 23, the national deputies in Kinshasa adopted a resolution to support the maintenance of the international A status of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). This move follows a recommendation from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions to downgrade the NHRC to status B due to non-compliance with the Paris Principles. NHRC President Paul Nsapu stated that the downgrade is not yet effective and that the commission has a deadline to demonstrate its independence, while requesting increased financial support from the Parliament. He also referenced documentation work related to the June 12 coalition C64 march in Kinshasa and urged improved governance and resources for the NHRC.
