The UN adopts the reform of the world map, closer to reality and led by Togo

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution, supported by Togo and several African countries, aimed at correcting the distortion of the Mercator projection that misrepresents the sizes of continents. The text was approved by 164 votes to one, with six abstentions. The resolution encourages the adoption of the 'Equal Earth' projection, which better respects the actual proportions of continents. Advocates believe that correcting these geographical representations can influence the geopolitical perception of Africa.
