There are 281 illegal immigrants from Tanzania detained in South Africa

Reports from Johannesburg indicate that 281 Tanzanian illegal immigrants are detained at Lindela Repatriation Center in Johannesburg. Most lack identity documents and have traveled through Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, or as stowaways on ships, often losing their documents or letting them expire. The Tanzanian Embassy confirmed their numbers and is coordinating their repatriation, with South Africa requesting the Tanzanian government to send transport means for their return. Lindela, established in 1996, is one of South Africa’s largest detention facilities for undocumented migrants managed by the Department of Home Affairs.
