Thousands of children deprived of birth certificates in Beni and surrounding areas

Thousands of children in the Beni territory, North Kivu province, are deprived of legal identity due to the lack of birth certificates. The Children's Parliament of Beni raised concerns about this situation, emphasizing that it compromises children's access to fundamental rights. Spokesperson Georges Kambale Ngumayiri expressed worries about the future of children without birth certificates, which prove their identity and nationality. Sylvain Kakule Lumbu Lumbu, head of the civil registry office in Beni, confirmed that only proxies are being issued due to the unavailability of official documents.
