Thousands protest in Croatia to demand government clean up toxic waste

Tens of thousands of protesters marched in Zagreb demanding the government urgently clean up a vast illegal dump of hazardous waste in the Lika region. Protesters are frustrated with authorities' inaction regarding over 30,000 tonnes of waste, including medical and industrial materials, buried near Gospic. Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic visited the site and announced a contractor for the cleanup, but soil and water tests contradict government assurances about contamination.
