Three arrested after axe-attack on police officer

A police constable was seriously injured in an axe-attack outside Delft Police Station early Monday morning. Three suspects – two men aged 23 and 25 and a 23-year-old woman – were arrested after a pursuit. The injured officer is in a stable condition. Police Oversight MEC Anroux Marais condemned the attack as a direct challenge to the rule of law.

Major-General Feroz Khan to face Madlanga inquiry

Major-General Feroz Khan, deputy head of Crime Intelligence and head of Counter and Security Intelligence, is expected to testify before the Madlanga Commission on July 1. Opposition parties will push for the Impeachment Committee to demand forensic and financial evidence emerging from the ongoing trial of the suspects in the Phala Phala theft. Testimony revealed that alleged mastermind Imanuwela David spent vast sums on luxury assets, including R1.5 million on a Mercedes-Benz and R980,000 on a property. Hawks financial analysts showed over R15 million was linked to the suspects' accounts after the February 2020 break-in, contradicting President Cyril Ramaphosa's claim that only $580,000 was stolen. ActionSA said this evidence should form part of the committee's scope.
