Tinubu scraps recruitment waiver requirement for federal universities

President Bola Tinubu has removed the requirement for federal universities to obtain recruitment waivers from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, aiming to ease staffing bottlenecks and strengthen institutional autonomy. The change was announced at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare’s first convocation, where 50 pioneer graduates received degrees, and gives the education ministry and university governing councils greater responsibility for recruitment. Tinubu also announced that tertiary institutions’ staff would move from IPPIS to GIFMIS to improve payroll administration. FUHSA has received an initial N8 billion intervention through TETFund, with further funding planned for infrastructure.
