For Libya, the Hormuz crisis can be a trap or an opportunity

Libya's strategic importance has increased due to its proven oil reserves of 48 billion barrels, the largest in Africa, and a production of 1.5 million barrels per day. Its oil is exported through the Mediterranean, and natural gas via the Greenstream pipeline to Europe. Despite its resources, Libya faces challenges of insecurity and an inefficient domestic energy system, leading to regular power outages and struggles to meet domestic and export demands. The Hormuz crisis, worsened by the US-Israel war on Iran, presents Libya with an opportunity to become a key player in global energy diversification, but it must address structural constraints.
