Togo: Alessio Cappellani, the EU’s new ambassador

Alessio Cappellani was appointed head of the European Union delegation in Togo on 18 September 2026. On 20 October, he submitted copies of his credentials to Togo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ahead of their formal presentation. He succeeds Gwilym Ceri Jones and will represent the EU to Togolese authorities while following political dialogue and cooperation programs, including in the economy, agriculture, energy and local development. His specific priorities for the role have not yet been announced.
