Togo: Fuel marking enters its inspection phase

The first inspections of fuel tax marking began in Togo on November 2, 2026, three months after the automated marking system was launched. Two mobile laboratories enable teams from the Togolese Revenue Office, the Ministry of Trade and SICPA to collect and analyze samples at service stations in Lomé, identifying fuel without the required chemical marker. Authorities had announced nearly 500 inspections per month across the distribution chain, with fines of 1 million to 10 million CFA francs for violations. The system is intended to curb smuggling and tax losses; an earlier pilot involving industrial diesel reportedly increased tax revenue by 8%.
