Togo: Kara municipalities prepare their territorial food plans

The four municipalities in Togo’s northern Kara region are developing Territorial Food Plans after validating a regional agricultural and food-systems diagnostic in Kara on November 2, 2026. The plans aim to improve production, processing and marketing of maize, rice, soybeans and market-garden produce, while expanding access to sufficient, quality food. They are also intended to promote short supply chains, support producers and small food-processing businesses, and strengthen local food supplies and resilience. The initiative is part of the PARCIT project, implemented in Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo with technical and financial support from the European Union.

Former Afreximbank President Oramah Urges Africa to Turn Global Shocks into Opportunities

At the 20th AELEX Annual Lecture in Lagos, former Afreximbank President Benedict Oramah urged African countries to use geopolitical upheaval and technological advances to accelerate economic transformation. Oramah called for stronger African financial institutions, more local-currency financing, expanded PAPSS and effective implementation of the AfCFTA, alongside investment in energy, data centres and critical-mineral processing. Event chair Bola Adesola stressed preparation for disruptions, while AELEX founding partner Fubara Anga urged state and local governments to take a greater role in attracting investment.

Speaking at an investor engagement organized by Aztran on Lagos Island, he cited the rollout of 11 Oracle ERP modules, which he said improved accountability and internally generated revenue, as well as the state’s rail projects. Hamzat said Lagos was reviewing waste collection funding so private operators could receive direct government payments, while subsidies would continue. Aztran Co-Managing Partner Victor Aluyi urged investors to mobilize capital to address infrastructure funding gaps in transport, power, housing, waste management and logistics.
