Touba: Brothers aged 72 and 62 arrested for illegally practicing medicine

Two brothers, aged 72 and 62, and a 57-year-old man appeared before the Diourbel Criminal Court accused of illegally practicing medicine, criminal conspiracy, and endangering others’ lives. They allegedly ran a medical clinic in Touba for three years, continuing after their father, a state nurse, died in 2023 to see patients and sell medicines without authorization. The defendants said they wanted to preserve their father’s social work, but prosecutor Farba Ngom sought two years in prison, including six months’ imprisonment, for each of them. They remain in custody pending a verdict scheduled for November 17, 2026.

He said the ECiDé rejects armed struggle but warned that repression is closing off peaceful avenues of expression.
