Traditional Rulers Seek 70% of Jobs for Communities Around Oba Hills Park

Traditional rulers from communities around Oba Hills National Park in Osun State are seeking the reservation of 70% of jobs arising from the park’s operations for local residents. During a visit to Abuja on October 28, 2026, council secretary Shedrack Adebayo Adelakun welcomed the national park status and its potential to support conservation, tourism and local livelihoods. The rulers also called for regular community engagement, greater access to jobs and training, and clearly marked boundaries to prevent land disputes, particularly around Akinleve. They urged proper care for 11,000 indigenous seedlings and sought clarification on farming in replanted areas and the impact of exotic trees on existing vegetation.
