Tragedy in Abengourou: Police chief sergeant shoots himself in the head in front of his son and friend

Chief Sergeant Gnahoré Hermann Martial, who served at the First District Police Station in Abengourou, shot himself in the head on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in the Plateau neighborhood, in front of his son, a customs officer friend and several witnesses. Sources close to the case said he had displayed suicidal intentions and threatened to take his life during the previous week. A colleague reportedly took his service weapon and placed it in the prefecture’s weapons unit, but the officer later retrieved a weapon. The night before the tragedy, he had sent his customs officer friend a message suggesting it would be his last.

The lawsuit, filed in November 2025, seeks $3 million for harassment and intentional infliction of emotional distress; Pinkett Smith denies the allegations and calls them false and uncorroborated.
