Trans people should use hospital spaces according to biological sex, NHS England says

New NHS England guidance says transgender patients should be cared for in single-sex hospital wards or bays aligned with their biological sex. Staff facilities should also be used according to biological sex, and NHS trusts are urged to provide enough alternatives such as single-occupancy or gender-neutral toilets. The guidance follows the UK Supreme Court’s April 2025 ruling and allows case-by-case decisions, with clinical need taking priority in emergency settings.
