‘Truly historic’: Morocco’s king appoints first woman prime minister

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as the country’s first female prime minister, the second woman ever in the Arab world to hold the position. She was previously urban planning minister and mayor of Marrakesh. El Mansouri called her appointment ‘truly historic’ and a source of pride for all Moroccan women. She is tasked with forming a new government following her party, the Authenticity and Modernity, winning the most votes in recent legislative elections.
