Trump’s Greenland deal: A triumph of optics?

A new agreement between the United States, Denmark, and Greenland aims to secure the Danish autonomous territory, potentially ending nearly two years of intimidation of Greenlanders by Washington. While the details of the agreement remain unclear, it appears to provide a favorable outcome for Denmark and Greenland by moving the dispute onto the diplomatic field. However, much of the military rights granted to the US were already established under the 1951 defense agreement, updated in 2004.
