TUC rejects FG’s N70,000 wage award, demands N300,000 minimum salary

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) rejects the federal government’s proposed monthly wage award of 70,000 naira and demands that the lowest-paid worker’s salary be raised to 300,000 naira. In a statement signed by President-General Festus Osifo and Secretary Nuhu Toro, the union says earlier wage awards were paid irregularly or not implemented, including in more than 80% of states and across the informal sector. It also calls for implementation of the agreement with health-sector unions (JOHESU) and measures to lower the cost of essential goods, pay salaries and pensions on time, and create decent jobs.
