The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has rejected the N70,000 monthly transport allowance agreed by the federal government and Nigeria Labour Congress leaders, arguing that workers need higher wages instead. The union says the government can raise the lowest-paid worker’s salary to N300,000 from the current N70,000 minimum wage and calls for implementation of the JOHESU agreement. It says the 2023 wage award was never fully paid to all workers. The Nigeria Union of Pensioners also condemned its exclusion from the six-month relief scheduled to begin in November 2026.
