Türkiye expands security footprint in Somalia with anti-piracy operation

Turkey is deepening its role in Somalia's maritime security campaign following a joint operation that led to the recovery of the cargo ship _Lutuf_, seized by Somali pirates. Fourteen pirates were killed and four pirate boats destroyed during the ten-day operation, which involved Turkish naval forces working with Somali maritime security agencies. The vessel, carrying supplies to the TURKSOM military base in Mogadishu, was attacked on August 17.
