Türkiye moves to ratify Mecca defence pact with Pakistan, Saudi Arabia

Türkiye has submitted the trilateral defence pact with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, known as the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, to parliament for ratification. Signed on August 7, the 16-article accord aims to establish a joint regional defence framework in the event of an armed attack on a member. Article 2 provides for immediate assistance, while each country will determine the scope and nature of its support after assessing the assistance required.

Kenya confirms ninth Ebola case amid concerns about regional spread

Kenya has confirmed a ninth Ebola case: a 24-year-old man who was already in quarantine and was isolated and treated as soon as his positive test was confirmed. He is a close relative of Kenya’s first patient, who died in a Nairobi hospital on October 5 after travelling from the DRC through Uganda. All nine cases belong to the same cluster, with no evidence of transmission outside it; eight patients are stable, and 134 of 135 contacts have been traced and quarantined.
