Two killed and one wounded in suspected taxi-related shooting at Delft rank

Two men were killed and a third wounded in a shooting early Thursday at the Palm taxi rank in Delft, South Africa. Police are investigating two counts of murder and attempted murder, and believe the attack may be taxi-related. A taxi operator at the rank linked the shooting to a long-running route dispute between the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and CODETA, including the Delft-to-Langa route. Hundreds of commuters were left stranded or had to find alternative transport to work.

Mukoko was dismissed by the governor of Kinshasa, while the justice minister ordered an investigation and the CSAC imposed an 88-day media embargo. The UDPS distanced itself from his statements and reaffirmed its commitment to non-violence.
