EPL: Alonso reacts to Penders’ performance and own goal after 2-0 defeat to Tottenham

Mathys Tel scored Tottenham’s second in the 87th minute, and Cole Palmer was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. Xabi Alonso said the team faced mistakes collectively and that Chelsea stood behind Penders as he learned from the experience.

Premier League statistics cited in the report partly challenge that explanation: Bouaddi has a 92.37% pass-completion rate, compared with 90.91% for Cherki and 88.5% for Foden, and completes more dribbles per 90 minutes than Foden.
