Benin’s Economic and Social Council (CES) held an awareness session in Cotonou on October 23, 2026, about breast and cervical cancers as part of Pink October. Organized at the initiative of CES president Abdoulaye Bio Tchane and led by the ACHAK Foundation, headed by Ahmed Atoro, the session covered warning signs, risk factors, vaccination, and regular screening. Lagos on alert, no Ebola case reported in the state

Lagos State Health Commissioner Prof. Akin Abayomi said on Sunday that no Ebola case had been detected in the state, following confirmation of an imported Ebola Bundibugyo case in Abuja. Authorities are strengthening disease surveillance and working with Port Health Services and Murtala Muhammed International Airport officials to improve screening and responses to suspected cases. Abayomi outlined symptoms that may appear two to 21 days after exposure and urged anyone who becomes ill after possible exposure or travel to an affected area to seek prompt medical assessment. He also advised regular handwashing, avoiding bodily fluids and sick or dead wild animals, and taking a malaria rapid test before using antimalarial medicines for a fever.

Pink October: Rotary Club Abidjan Lagunes targets 50 women for screening

On October 24, 2026, the Rotary Club Abidjan Lagunes launched its “Pink October Solidarity Initiative” at Cirad in Abidjan-Cocody, aiming to support around 50 women with breast cancer screening. Run with Cirad and the Ivorian Association of Midwives’ Cocody-Bingerville section, the initiative provides mammograms and follow-up based on examination results. Rotary president Ange-Isaac Aka said a contribution of 780,000 CFA francs, enough to cover 13 women, could extend screening to 39 women, with a total estimated value of 2.34 million CFA francs. Sandrine Aka and Cirad representative Franck-Ariole N’Guessan stressed the importance of awareness, early detection and medical support.

Uganda orders 21-day quarantine for citizens returning from DR Congo

Uganda is requiring citizens who have travelled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to quarantine for 21 days at their own expense when they return. Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi announced the measure in Kampala on October 25, as Ebola cases in Kenya and Nigeria raised concerns about travellers passing through Uganda. Uganda declared its Bundibugyo outbreak over on July 28 after recording 20 infections and two deaths, and has strengthened screening at Entebbe airport and land crossings. Baryomunsi disputed that a Ugandan-born woman whose infection was confirmed in Nigeria contracted Ebola during a visit to Uganda; the WHO says it has no information showing that she travelled to the DRC.
