Cape Town to expand body-worn camera network to 3 000 devices

The City of Cape Town is adding 750 body-worn cameras for Metro Police, Law Enforcement, and Traffic officers, bringing the total to 3,000 devices. Currently, 2,250 cameras are in use, and footage has been requested over 450 times for internal investigations or shared with the South African Police Service. Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith stated that these cameras provide protection for both officers and the public.
