Abdul Rahman al-Qaradawi, an Egyptian opposition activist and poet, has been pardoned by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He was arrested in Lebanon in December 2024 and extradited to the UAE in January 2025, facing charges of activities aimed at undermining public security. On August 27, 2026, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined 200,000 dirhams, but the necessary procedures for implementing the presidential pardon have been taken.
