UASU Issues 7-Day Strike Notice, Sets September 30 Date for Lecturers to Down Tools

Kenyan university lecturers are set to strike starting September 30 after the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) issued a seven-day notice. UASU Secretary-General Constantine Wasonga announced the strike would begin at midnight on September 30, citing the government's failure to implement the 2025-2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The union criticized the lack of a financial counter-proposal from the government and noted that other public sector employees had already concluded their CBAs, while negotiations for lecturers remain unresolved.
