Uganda: Buzeki Warns Teachers Against Neglecting Government Schools As Enrolment Falls

Kampala Capital City Authority Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki has warned teachers in government schools against enrolling their own children in private schools, saying it undermines public confidence in Universal Primary Education and contributes to declining enrollment. Speaking at the handover of renovated facilities at Bukoto Muslim Primary School, she said teachers must lead by example by trusting the schools where they work. Buzeki made enrollment growth a key performance target for head teachers and teachers, and warned that schools with persistently low enrollment could face closure or repurposing.
