UK creates office to support citizens detained overseas

The UK announced Tuesday the appointment of former Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt as the first-ever Envoy for Complex Consular Detentions. The office was established to provide additional assistance in complicated cases, including those involving concerns about welfare, due process, or human rights. Burt will coordinate across government, advocate for British nationals detained abroad, and work closely with their families.
