UK-France 'one in, one out' migrant scheme scrapped

The UK government has announced the termination of the 'one in, one out' agreement with France, which allowed for the return of some migrants crossing the Channel in exchange for accepting an equal number of legitimate migrants. Since the scheme's launch over a year ago, around 1,500 people have been removed to France. The government plans to continue working with France to address small boat crossings, but felt the scheme did not reach the desired scale and will use lessons learned to speed up removals of migrants with no right to remain in the UK.
