Kenyan diplomat Martin Kimani has been appointed the new United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Africa in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. He succeeds Ghana's Martha Pobee, who held the position since May 2021. Kimani brings 25 years of experience in international relations and previously served as Kenya's Permanent Representative to the UN from 2020 to 2024, among other roles.
