UN Chinese Language Day: Why language learning still matters in the age of AI

Researchers at the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology have developed a brain-computer interface capable of decoding and synthesizing Mandarin in real-time. Ahead of the 17th UN Chinese Language Day, students from 12 countries emphasize that AI is a valuable tool for learning but does not replace the cultural depth of the language. While AI facilitates learning, it cannot capture the cultural richness and nuances of Chinese words.
