FG Urges States to Align Production and Consumption to Protect Farmers

Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, urged states to align agricultural production with consumption and industrial demand to protect farmers from losses and stabilise food prices. Speaking at the 48th National Council on Agriculture and Food Security meeting in Enugu on November 5, he said food inflation, which fell to 8.89% in January 2026, had risen to 19.59% by September as input costs continued to climb. In November 2026, the maximum price for unleaded petrol is 905 CFA francs per litre and diesel 725 CFA francs, while filling a conventional vehicle can cost more than 40,000 CFA francs. Drivers manage and schedule charging through apps that can be funded via services such as Wave or Orange Money; a car can reach 93% charge in 30 minutes, compared with three to four hours for an electric bus.
