UN: Food Waste, a Challenge for Climate and Food Security

More than one billion meals are wasted daily due to overproduction, spoilage, or poor meal planning, according to UNEP. Food waste contributes to climate change by releasing methane in landfills, accounting for about 8 to 10% of global emissions. 13% of food is lost after harvest before reaching stores, and 19% is wasted in households, supermarkets, and restaurants, leading to the wastage of land, water, and energy used in production.
