UN: Rwanda Insists on Implementation of Agreements and Verification to Restore Peace in Eastern DRC

During the UN Security Council meeting on September 29, 2026, Rwanda’s representative, Martin K. Ngoga, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to ongoing diplomatic processes and emphasized the importance of effectively implementing agreements between Kigali and Kinshasa. He noted that the security crisis in eastern DRC has been on the Security Council’s agenda for nearly thirty years, with over $30 billion spent by the UN since 1999, yet the root causes remain unresolved. Ngoga also highlighted Rwanda’s continued participation in joint security mechanisms, including efforts to neutralize FDLR and lift defensive measures, and proposed establishing a verification mechanism.
